Firenze, 18 aprile 2017 – Ricordando che domani ricorrerà l’anniversario della morte di Lord George Gordon Byron (Missolungi, Grecia, 19 aprile 1824).
Dicono che la Speranza sia felicità
Felix qui potuit rerum cognoscere causas

Dicono che la Speranza sia felicità,
Ma il vero Amore deve amare il passato,
E il Ricordo risveglia i pensieri felici
Che primi sorgono e ultimi svaniscono.
E tutto ciò che il Ricordo ama di più
Un tempo fu Speranza solamente;
E quel che amò e perse la Speranza
Ormai è circonfuso nel Ricordo.
È triste! È tutto un’illusione:
Il futuro ci inganna da lontano,
Non siamo più quel che ricordiamo,
Né osiamo pensare a ciò che siamo.
